Android package name generator & checker

Your package name is your app's permanent ID — on the phone and on Google Play. Generate a valid one in seconds, or paste one to check it follows every rule.

Suggestions

How to use it

  1. Enter your app name. Type the app's name, e.g. Recipe Box.
  2. Enter your domain or name. Use a website you own, or your own name if you don't have one.
  3. Pick a suggestion. Copy a suggested package name; it is checked automatically.
  4. Or check your own. Paste any package name into the checker to see whether it follows the rules.

Android package name rules

  • At least two parts separated by dots — com.example is the minimum.
  • Every part starts with a letter.
  • Only letters, numbers and underscores. No hyphens, spaces or accents.
  • No Java keywords as a part (new, class, int…).
  • Lowercase by convention.
  • Unique on Google Play, and com.example.* is rejected there.

The usual format

Reverse a domain you own and add the app: mariasbakery.com + Recipe Box → com.mariasbakery.recipebox. No domain? com.yourname.appname or io.github.yourname.appname work well. Building for a client? Use their domain, so the app can move to their Play account later.

Choose once

Android treats a different package name as a different app. Change it after launch and users must install a "new" app, losing their data and your Play reviews. The app's display name, on the other hand, can change in any update. Check an existing APK's package name with APK info online.

Private by design: everything runs on your device. Nothing you type or upload here is sent to a server.

Questions people ask

What is an Android package name?

It's the app's unique, permanent ID (also called the application ID), written like com.company.appname. Android and Google Play use it to tell apps apart.

Can an Android package name have a hyphen?

No. Use an underscore or drop it: com.my_shop.app or com.myshop.app.

Can I change my package name later?

Not for the same app. A new package name is treated as a completely different app, so choose it before your first release.
