HTML to APK offline: an app that works with no internet

"Offline" means two different things when people search for this. Here's the honest answer to both — and a checklist so your app keeps working on a plane.

Quick answerThe conversion itself needs an internet connection, because the APK is built on a cloud server. The app you get can run completely offline: when you build from an HTML file or a ZIP, every file is packed inside the APK. Just make sure your page doesn't load fonts, libraries or images from the internet.

Two kinds of "offline"

QuestionAnswer
Can I convert HTML to APK without internet? Not with this tool. Building an APK needs the Android build tools, which run on our servers. You need a connection for the few minutes it takes.
Can the app work without internet?Yes. Apps built from an HTML file or ZIP carry all their files inside the APK and open with no signal at all.

If you truly need to build with no internet — say, on an air-gapped machine — the only route is installing Android Studio and the Android SDK locally, which is a different (and much bigger) job.

Files work offline, URLs don't

An app made from a website URL loads that website every time it opens, so it needs a connection (it can show a friendly offline screen instead of an error). An app made from HTML or a ZIP doesn't load anything — it already has everything. For offline use, always build from files.

The offline checklist

Most "offline" apps that break are quietly reaching out to the internet. Look for these in your HTML:

  • CDN scripts — anything like https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/… or https://unpkg.com/…. Download the file into your js/ folder and point to it there.
  • Google Fonts — download the font files and add an @font-face rule, or simply use system fonts.
  • Icon kits loaded from a URL — swap them for inline SVG.
  • Images hosted elsewhere — copy them into your images/ folder.
  • Embeds — YouTube videos, maps and social widgets always need a connection. Hide them gracefully when offline.

A quick way to find them all: open your page on a computer, open DevTools → Network, and reload. Anything not coming from your own files will fail offline.

Saving data without a server

Offline apps still need memory. localStorage is perfect for settings, scores and short lists, and survives the app being closed. For bigger things — hundreds of notes, saved images — use IndexedDB. When the connection comes back, you can sync with a server if you want to; check navigator.onLine before trying.

Test it like a traveller

  1. Install the APK and open it once.
  2. Turn on flight mode and swipe the app closed.
  3. Open it again and visit every page, image and feature.
  4. If anything is missing, it's still being loaded from the internet — bundle it and rebuild.

Questions people ask

Can I convert HTML to APK offline?

The conversion needs internet because the APK is built in the cloud. The finished app can run fully offline if you build it from an HTML file or ZIP.

Does an HTML APK need internet to open?

No. Apps built from HTML or ZIP files carry all their content inside the APK. Only content loaded from external URLs needs a connection.

How do I run HTML code offline on Android?

Pack it into an APK from an HTML file or ZIP. The app opens your page from local storage, with or without a connection.
