How a link becomes an app
The APK contains a small Android app with your link inside it. When someone opens it, it loads your website full-screen — no address bar, no browser tabs. Logins stay logged in, carts stay filled, and when you update your site the app updates too, without a rebuild.
Link or HTML: which should you use?
| From a link | From HTML / ZIP | |
|---|---|---|
| Content updates | Instant, from your site | Rebuild the APK |
| Works offline | Shows an offline screen | Fully |
| Best for | Stores, blogs, booking sites, web apps | Tools, games, menus, brochures |
If your site is static and you want it offline, convert the HTML instead.
Works with any website
WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Blogger, Google Sites, Notion pages, your own web app — if it opens in Chrome on a phone, it can be an app.
Test these before you share
- "Sign in with Google" buttons. Google blocks its login page inside embedded app views. Offer email login too, or check that your login opens in a browser tab.
- Photo and file uploads on your forms.
- Payments — go through a checkout and come back.
- Phone, email and WhatsApp links should open the right app.
- The back button should go back a page, and only close the app from the home page.
Putting a website app on Google Play
Google Play is wary of apps that only show a website. You'll have a much easier review if the app adds something a browser tab can't: push notifications, a bottom tab bar to your main sections, a proper offline screen. Those, plus the AAB file Play requires, come with Pro.
Small touches that make it feel like an app
- Pick a theme colour that matches your header, so the status bar blends in instead of flashing white.
- Pull to refresh lets people reload a page the way they would in any feed app.
- A friendly offline screen beats a browser error when someone opens the app in a lift.
- Hide "download our app" banners on your site when it's viewed inside the app — your visitors already have it.
When do you need to rebuild?
Almost never for content. New posts, new products, price changes and design tweaks all show up automatically, because the app loads your live site. Rebuild only when you change something about the app itself: its name, icon, colours, start page or package settings. Keep the same package name and signing key, raise the version, and the new APK installs over the old one without losing anyone's login.

Questions people ask
Can I make an APK from a website link for free?
Yes. Paste your URL into the free Website to App converter and build. The free APK has no watermark.
Will the app update when I change my website?
Yes. The app loads your live site, so changes appear immediately. You only rebuild to change the app's name, icon or settings.
Does an APK made from a link work offline?
It needs a connection to show your pages, and shows an offline screen without one. For a fully offline app, build from HTML or a ZIP.
